On April 17, 2009 at 7:30 PM in magnificent University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, the FSSP Foundation will present an evening of musical entertainment. This benefit concert From Galway to Broadway is a tribute to the great Irish tenor Frank Patterson. Back By Popular Demand………..

Featuring Broadway singing stars Ciaran Sheehan and Gay Willis, they will be accompanied by the famous concert pianist, Eily O’Grady Patterson.

From Galway to Broadway is currently on a US tour, originating at New York’s Radio City this winter, and will end with a final show at Radio City Music Hall. Ciaran has been acclaimed for his portrayals of both the Phantom and Raoul on Broadway for two and a half years. Gay Willis played Christine in Phantom, as well as being the featured soprano on a world tour performing The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. The FSSP Glee Club will perform as well.

In addition to this fantastic musical performance, the FSSP Foundation is hosting a private reception in the Bauer Room for Emerald Level ticket holders/sponsors. Guests will meet the performers and enjoy an open bar and hors d’oeuvres (following the show). Please remember that this is a charitable event. Proceeds from the Concert will benefit both the Frank Patterson Memorial Scholarship and the FSSP Foundation Scholarship for area students to study in Ireland. Ciaran Sheehan Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland Ciaran Sheehan first came to the attention of legendary broadway director Harold Prince during the production of his award winning play “Grandchild of Kings”. Recognizing his great talent, Prince within a year had Ciaran starring on Broadway. Playing first the romantic hero Marius in “Les Miserables,” he was later cast as the dashing young Raoul in “The Phantom of the Opera.” After two years as Raoul, Ciaran then starred in the coveted role of The Phantom.
Sheehan sang the role of the Phantom in over 1000 performances during the course of two and a half years both on Broadway and in Toronto. Of his performances in Phantom critics had this to say –
“Sheehan has the kind of soaring stage voice from which indelible Broadway moments are made”…“the best yet” - Jeremy Gerard, Hollywood Variety.

Among Ciaran’s most memorable engagements have been-
Performing the American National Anthem at New York State Governor George Pataki’s inauguration in 2004. Opening the dedication of the Irish Hunger Memorial in New York with the Irish and American National Anthems. Soloist at the internationally televised memorial mass for John and Carolyn Kennedy. Ciaran ‘s television special “ From Galway to Broadway” with co-star soprano, Gay Willis, is currently being shown on PBS stations across America.

Gay Willis Award-winning soprano Gay Willis won world recognition when she did the world tour of The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman performing to sold out houses in six countries including Royal Albert Hall and Radio City Music Hall. Her moving performances of the Pie Jesu (Reqiuem) received rave reviews from critics worldwide. Gay then starred as Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera opposite both Colm Wilkinson and Ciaran Sheehan. "As Christine, Willis' voice has an almost ethereal quality...transporting the audience to unexpected heights emotionally as well as vocally."(Maui News) Other performances include Rapunzel in Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods (Kennedy Center), Mabel in Pirates of Penzance (Carbonell Award -Best Actress), Bloomer Girl (City Center), Funny Girl (with Whoopi Goldberg), and Nothing Like a Dame(raves from Liz Smith-New York Post). She completed over 1000 performances as Magnolia in Hal Prince's production of Showboat on Broadway, in Chicago, and on tour with Cloris Leachman (Joseph Jefferson-Best Acress Award). "Willis' Magnolia ages from bubbly ingenue to knowing matron and mother with great finesse and a strong emotional edge."(Variety) Gay is proud to be from Beaufort, North Carolina and in real life plays the role of mother to sons Gabriel and Chad with loving husband George Marge.

Eily O’Grady Patterson Dublin born concert pianist and Irish harpist Eily O’Grady Patterson has appeared in concert with the Boston Pops, and has performed many times on the BBC and Irish Television. With her husband, the late internationally famous tenor, Frank Patterson, she has toured extensively throughout Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia. Together they performed in many of the world’s most prestigious concert venues. Eily was Pianist and Artistic Director of Frank’s show at Radio City Music Hall for six consecutive years and his annual Frank Patterson Irish Show at Carnegie Hall for seven years.

For the past few years she has been performing with Ciaran Sheehan and Gay Willis and recently co- produced with Bob Marty the television special From Galway to Broadway for PBS .
A Licentiate of the Royal Academy, London and an Associate of Trinity College, Eily has been awarded honorary Doctorates by Salve Regina University, Rhode Island and Manhattan College, New York. In 1998 she received the prestigious Gold Medal of the Eire Society of Boston, Massachusetts in recognition of her contribution to Irish Culture in the United States, and in 2003 was the recipient of the “Irish Woman of the Year” award from the New York Department of Education.
