About The Friendly Sons

The Society of The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick is a private organization dedicated to the principles of brotherhood, charity and community service. Since the founding of the organization in 1771, the society has maintained a tradition of openess to Irish as well as non-Irish men of goodwill, without regard to ethnic or religious origin. As the society moves into the new millenium our membership continues to grow and our commitment to the founding principles and traditions is strong. With God's blessing we look forward to another century of fraternity and service.

The Foundation of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick

Since the founding of the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, members have been encouraged individually and together to provide assistance to deserving causes. Historically this effort has been directed to emigrants from Ireland who often arrived on the strange shores of America with little funds and no welcoming embrace. Through individual efforts on the part of member's goodwill, many families were able to escape the famine, which plagued Ireland in the past, and to thrive in their adopted land.

We now find ourselves in a new time and the needs for the Irish emigrants have changed. Changed, but the needs are still there. The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick have created The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick Foundation to provide a vehicle for members to continue the long practiced charitable principles which played such an important part in the life of Irish emigrants in the past.

The purpose of the The Foundation include doing all things necessary and reasonable as determined by the Board of Directors to promote an appreciation of Irish culture, literature, art and studies. In addition, The Foundation will strive to relieve the burdens of poverty, illness, incapacity, and homelessness. The Foundation will also promote education, scholarship and the advancement of Irish culture, literature and music among all of the people in the Greater Cincinnati area.
